How it works with us

  1. Step 1

    Choose a route

Invest directly abroad under LRS, or through Indian funds that invest overseas. GIFT City products have their own page.

  2. Step 2

    Set up accounts

Complete the platform’s KYC and your bank’s remittance forms.

  3. Step 3

    Remit and invest

Your bank sends the money abroad; tax collected at source may apply.

  4. Step 4

    Report

Foreign assets must be shown in your income tax return; we flag what to share with your tax adviser.

Things to understand first

General points only. Read the offer documents for the specific product before you invest.

  1. Overseas investments carry currency risk as well as market risk.
  2. For resident individuals, remittances fall under the Reserve Bank of India’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme limits and rules, and tax may be collected at source.
  3. Foreign assets and income have specific tax and disclosure requirements in India.
  4. The products available depend on what MOFSL offers and can change.

Common questions

How much can I invest abroad?

Under the LRS, resident individuals can remit up to the annual limit set by the RBI, which covers all permitted purposes combined.

Do I need to report foreign investments?

Yes. Residents must disclose foreign assets in their income tax return, even in years with no income from them.

Can I invest abroad through Indian mutual funds?

Some Indian funds invest overseas. Industry-wide limits can restrict new investments in them at times.
